Umbilical Cord Blood Banks

Umbilical cord blood contains stem cells that can ethically be used to treat diseases. In 2003 measures were introduced in Congress to establish a National Cord Blood Cell Bank Network. These measures have support from both sides of the stem cell debate. The Conference Report on the Fiscal Year 2004 Omnibus Appropriations Bill includes $10 million to establish a "National Cord Blood Stem Cell Bank Program."
